The name of the band was inspired by Demonaz of Immortal (Nor) after the Immortal demo track "Enslaved In Rot". When Enslaved started, Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson were 13 and 17 years old. Enslaved participated in the Celtic Frost tribute "In Memory Of... Celtic Frost", released by Dwell Records in 1996, covering the song "Procreation (Of The Wicked)". Later, in 1998, the band also participated in the Darkthrone tribute "Darkthrone Holy Darkthrone", released by Moonfog Productions, covering the song "Natassja In Eternal Sleep".
